This confirms the report that on 20-Jul-2000 the CPUC ordered a deferral of the area code change from 760 change to 442 for north San Diego County. The phone companies have been directed to send out notices within 30 days about the deferral. "Questions may be directed to Joe Cocke, NPA Relief Planning - Western Region at 805-520-1945".

20-Jul-2000 11PM - KGTV states: The north county won't be getting a new area code in October after all, due to a "suspension" the California Public Utilities Commission announced".

20-Jul-2000 4PM - In an e-mail from Heidi Wayman, NeuStar, Inc., NANPA Code Administrator, "760 is going to split into 442. Permissive dialing is not scheduled to start until 10/21/00."
