Anim8or "Robe Flow" Tutorial

This tutorial is designed to answer the question, how do I make a robe or other clothing flop around? This document will now take you through the steps and you can download the example here.

Step 1. Create a cone using the cylinder property convert to mesh using the build menu then color and reshape as desired.

Step 2. Make some attractive footwear or feet.

Step 3. Now change mode from object to figure and begin adding bones. The bones will look like a quadropod with your first bone branching out four directions.

Step 4. Adjust your bones to fit inside your object. Attach the object to the first bone off the root bone.

Step 5. Now attach the footwear to the lower side legs just inside the cone as shown.

Step 6. Now click the flex tool and begin selecting bones until you have the exterior skinned.

Step 8. HEY! What happened to step 7? Oh, okay Step 7. Make sure you double click each bone and free them (I used no limits because I am lazy and proud of it.).

Step Q. CUT THAT OUT! Whatever... Now go to sequence and animate your figure. With a simple walk cycle on the left and right legs. Play around with the front and back legs and see what looks right to you.
