Sundays and Wednesdays featuring a special show from my archives starting around 9 a.m. Eastern and repeating throughout the day.
My youthful interpretation of reggae as "simplistic" came from looking at it wrong; it's actually the most essential elements of music stripped away from the usual clutter.
Take any piece of music and wipe away all pretense, all cliches, all superfluous notes and effects - what you're left with is reggae.
Behind every song there is a piece of reggae dying to get out. In short, it is the root of all music.
It almost goes without saying that Bob Marley is the king of reggae.
People from every walk of life throughout the world love Bob Marley's music.
Marley's fame is a testament to the univerality of reggae, as I know of no other musician whose voice has reached so many.
(If you can think of one, please let me know).
So here we go with a Bob Marley & The Wailers show - the first of many that I plan on periodically broadcasting.
On 6/27/1980, the Wailers played at Stadio in Milan, Italy. Here's the setlist from setlist.com:
Marley Chant > Natural Mystic, Positive Vibration, Revolution, I Shot The Sheriff, War! > No More Trouble, Zimbabwe, Jammin', No Woman No Cry, Exodus, E: Redemption Song, Knotty Dread, Work, Kaya, Roots Rock Reggae, Is This Love?, Could You Be Loved
I hope you enjoy the show as much as I do.
