Who are we?
|
|
We're four guys.
Four guys who have been good friends since middle
school at Asheville Christian Academy. Brad and I
were the old-timers; William showed up halfway
through 7th grade and Alex came to ACA in 8th grade.
By the time we moved up into the highschool,
everything was set, and we've been friends ever since!
By 10th grade we started talking about playing some
music together, because we saw that we had two
guitarists and a drummer, and William's dad played
bass...so we were sure William could pick up a thing
or two.
Our first performance together was for a dinner that
our class put on for the middle schoolers...we played
3 songs which were all pretty bad, but it was awesome
anyway, and we did get everyone out of their seats!
It was then that we realized we would have to start
a band.
Nothing more happened until the start of 11th grade.
We started volunteering to play for chapel services
at school, getting some easy experience with praise
and worship music. Finally, with the encouragement of
tons of friends, we got our act together enough to
name the band and start rehearsing our own music,
since Alex and I had both been writing songs for
some time. Once we got started, things started
falling in line, and with enormous support from
people around us, we were able to create Second
Dawn!

What is Second Dawn?

Don't even get us started on band names.
It took us forever to decide on a name. Originally,
we all compiled a list of ideas, including:
Vertically Inclined, Unattainable Goal, Namesake,
Triad (haha but William never liked that one...inside
joke, I guess), and (William's idea and one of my
personal favorites) The Crunchy Curtain Machine.
Finally, after going back and forth between tons of
names, we named the band Point in Time. I designed
the website, we started writing music, and we even
made some recordings. But before we even started
going public, we decided that we didn't really like
that name very much after all. And so, the whole
thing started again. We considered another batch of
names, including Midnight at Nine, The Passage, and
Culmination (or Culmin-Nation, as William
suggested...never quite understood that one). We
even took polls this time, since we had a handful
of fans at school! After painful and careful
consideration, we renamed the band Second Dawn.
Although some people were sorry to see PiT go, the
new name fits much better. A second dawn, a second
day, a new life, a rebirth...the ultimate rebirth,
of course, being rebirth in Christ! And remember
that Christ rose on Sunday, the second dawn after
being buried! It may have taken a long time to come
up with a name, but this is who we are.
