Lee Lightfoot

Sallie
Lee Lightfoot was born on June 8, 1878 in Paris, Texas. The second born
and only daughter of Dora and William Lightfoot, Sallie Lee spent many
summers visiting her grandparents, the Maxey's, and enjoying the company
of her cousin Sam Long. When she was six and her brother Tom four, their
mother, Dora, died of stomach cancer.
Following her father's marriage to Etta Wooten and a family move to Dallas,
Sallie Lee completed "finishing school," and in 1896 moved into
the Maxey house.
Sallie Lee was active in the King's Daughters a charitable organization
formed in 1887 by Miss Johnson.The King's Daughters became the official
relief channel for Paris and Lamar county after the 1916 fire. Sallie
Lee and her cousin Sam Long were active in the Lamar county chapter of
the American Red Cross. She was recognized for her support and efforts
during World War One.
Sallie Lee and Lala Long lived in harmony during their years at the Maxey
house. Even though there were no children in the home, both ladies excelled
at entertaining local youngsters with fabulous parties and an annual Easter
egg hunt. Sallie Lee died June 11, 1966 in Paris, and is burried in Evergreen
Cemetary.
