Sallie Lee Lightfoot

Sallie Lee Lightfoot was born on June 8, 1878 in Paris, Texas. The second born and only daughter of Dora and William Lightfoot, Sallie Lee spent many summers visiting her grandparents, the Maxey's, and enjoying the company of her cousin Sam Long. When she was six and her brother Tom four, their mother, Dora, died of stomach cancer.
Following her father's marriage to Etta Wooten and a family move to Dallas, Sallie Lee completed "finishing school," and in 1896 moved into the Maxey house.
Sallie Lee was active in the King's Daughters a charitable organization formed in 1887 by Miss Johnson. The King's Daughters became the official relief channel for Paris and Lamar county after the 1916 fire. Sallie Lee and Lala Long lived in harmony during their years at the Maxey house.
