The Carnival is Over ?

As far as we can tell Hayle is unique among Cornish towns boasting not one but two carnivals, one normally taking place at the height of the Holiday season at the beginning of August, and another ‘illuminated Carnival’ in December.

This proud tradition is under serious threat though as the carnival committee’s plea for more volunteers to help organise the event fell on deaf ears. In a final effort to muster more support especially from younger people, the whole 11 strong Carnival Committee all of who are of pensionable age, threatened to resign and called an emergency public meeting.

Alas only five members of the public turned up for the meeting. However, the committee are putting a brave face on the sorry state of affairs and are vowing to carry on at least for the time being and the summer carnival, at least, looks like it will go ahead, this year at least. This event is currently planned to be held on 5th August.
