Art and Science Centre Plan for Hayle

Proposals for an 'Art and Science Park' have been unveiled for the outskirts of Hayle by local publisher and entrepreneur Lynette Forsdyke-Crofts who aims to create the new centre off the B3302 between Hayle and Helston.

The ambitious plans include an exhibition and conference centre with facilities for 800 people smaller seminar rooms and office space, a hotel and restaurant, public viewing galleries for fine art, and science park that would emphasise the sea and marine life.

The plans are still in the early stages but have already received a cautious welcome from Andrew George MP and Hayle Chamber of Commerce. The plan is dependant on raising private sector funding and there are a number of planning and infrastructure issues that will need to be overcome.

Ms Forsdyke-Crofts plans to attract large corporate businesses to the new development and claims that the project will be self-funding and no public sector or Objective One funding will be required. "We are very confident that we can raise the money. Once this starts rolling it will snowball", she said.

One big stumbling block could be the road system. Ms Forsdyle-Crofts said: "For this to happen a slip road has to be built off the A30. Hayle's roads cannot handle any more traffic. The town is screaming about the traffic there already is".
