Youth Centre re-opens after £100,000 facelift

There were crowds of youngsters on the streets of Hayle on Friday evening as they made their way to the official pre-Christmas opening of the newly refurbished Youth Centre. The centre had been closed for several weeks while the former 'rather shabby' building was completely transformed into a state of the art facility. There had been real fears for the survival of the Youth Centre and the loss of one of the few dedicated facilities for young people looked like it might be lost.

However, following the renegotiation of the lease on the property Cornwall County Council was successful in bidding for funds which enabled the building to be completely refurbished and re-equipped.

Hayle Mayor and Cornwall County Council Portfolio holder for Children and Young People's services and County Youth Officer John Appleton were on hand to perform the opening. They emphasised that this was not been just a cosmetic job and that the building had been transformed into something of which the county council, the youth service and the young people of Hayle can be justly proud."

The new centre boasts an IT suite,  recording suite, professional quality sound rign and a stage with and stage lighting which can be programmed for live performances to produce a range of effects. West Cornwall Community Network has also provided table tennis tables, table football, play stations and TV sets.
