Skate Park put on Ice |

Despite being approved in a blaze of publicity it seems that plans to build a skate park on the Recreation Ground in Hayle have been put on ice for an indefinite period. The 'state of the art' facility received funding approval earlier in the year following the opening of a similar facility in Penzance but work has yet to start on the project. The current delay is apparently due to the fact that planners forgot that the site is on a flood plain and consequently the required flood risk assessment was not carried out. This, in theory at least, should be a paper exercise since the impact of the skate park on the flood plain and the consequences should the park itself be flooded would seem minimal. It does however seem to call into question the competence with which the proposals have been handled. Meanwhile a further delay in the completion of the road works on Hayle Causeway has also been announced. The works which have already disrupted the busy road since June and lasted throughout the holiday period were due to end at the end of the month. However, it has been announced that the works are not now expected to be completed until late January. |
