Hayle not on the Tourist Map
by Jim Davey (Wolverhampton)

My wife and I have just spent a great week at Hayle, Higher Trevaskis Caravan site, which is in our opinion one of the best in the west country, a fact born out by the large number of people who return year after year, myself included.

While we were there we were given a holiday newspaper, 'The Cornish Visitor' a guide to Cornwall, which is a Cornish times publication of some 40 pages. Hayle received a scant few lines on page 31, just as one of the points of interest. Liskeard on the other hand with little to commend it had two whole pages. Advertisements covered Plymouth, Dartmoor, Tavistock, and several other 'up country' places.

On Page 3 there was a large tourist map of Cornwall, to help us holiday makers get around no doubt, Hayle was not included on the map, I repeat, not included. Camborne and Redruth are there even Tavistock, which was in Devon when I last looked, but no sign of Hayle, have they moved it?.

I have just noticed the Cornish Times is based at Liskeard little wonder at the two page spread for this well known Cornish holiday resort, that must attract many thousands of visitors each year! Must try it some time but not this year or next.

Seems to me the Cornish Times and the Tourist Information people need to get their act together.

FACT: In Cornwall, only Newquay has more tourist accommodation than Hayle.

FACT: Hayle has more than 50% of the total tourist accommodation in Penwith.
