Hayle Residents are calling for a referendum to be held to let the people of Hayle have a say in the in some of the issues currently facing the town. Under section Schedule 12 of the Local Government Act 1972, if a meeting called for the purpose of securing a referendum secures at least 10 votes or 1/3 of those present - whichever is the smaller a referendum must be held.
The meeting will be held at The Passmore Edwards Institute, Hayle on Tuesday 19th July at 7-30pm.
It is envisaged that the questions put forward for referendum will include the issues of:-
The exact wording of the questions to be put to the referendum will be decided at the meeting, Assuming that the 10 votes or 1/3 requirement is met Penwith District Council will be obliged hold the referendum within 25 days.
