Fire Free Zone = No Fire Station

Welcome viewers, Leading Fire-Free Firefighter Holman reporting for duty again. Have you heard the latest? Well don't say I didn't tell you so, but Cornwall County Council is now using the 'success' of the Hayle Safe Fire Free Zone as the reason why Hayle does not deserve its own fire station.

A fire brigade spokesperson has acknowledged that the recent 'boom' in house building in Hayle has led to an increased risk which in the past could have been used to argue for the provision of a fire station in the town.

However he said that there was no possibility in the 'foreseeable future' of a fire station being provided since the Hayle Safe Fire Free Zone plan, which under free advice and smoke alarms are provided, has counteracted that increased risk.

The logic that follows from this must therefore be that if Hayle had stood up and refused to cooperate with the Hayle Safe Scheme, it would now have a greater chance of getting a fire station.

There is now talk of extending the Fire Free Zone scheme to other areas so presumably fire cover will be downgraded there as well, is this the intention? While smoke and fire alarms have to be a good thing, they are not much use if there in no fire engine to respond.

Hayle should not have to settle for second class services, Hayle taxpayers pay as much, if not more than many other areas, its about time it got the services to match.
