Elections Called

Town Council Elections
Thanks to Hayle residents who signed petitions to have elections held for Hayle Town Council rather than go through the usual fiasco of having the self-selection by co-option a by-election has been called.

There were two vacant seats in Hayle, one in Hayle North and one in Hayle South. While a number of potential candidates originally considered putting themselves forward in Hayle South, in the event only one remained following the close of withdrawals and therefore John Bennett standing on a ticket of the 'Thoughtful Development of Hayle Harbour' was elected unopposed.

In Hayle North Ronald Bryant and Helen Riches will contest the election which will take place on 7th April any person wishing to vote by either post or proxy must return completed application forms to the Electoral Registration Officer, Council Offices, St Clare, Penzance TR18 3QW by 5pm on March 30, the forms can be obtained from the same address.

County Council Elections
All seats on Cornwall County Council are up for grabs with the elections to be held on 5th May, when there will probably be a general election as well! Anyone wanting to stand as a candidate for County council can get the necessary information by ringing 0800 0858900. The deadline for nominations is 7th April so you need to get your papers in before that date. You can contact the same number if you want to vote by either post or proxy.

If any candidates would like to post their election manifesto on Hayle Eye, please contact us and we will let our readers know where you stand on the issues that affect them and their town.
