Hayle/Gwithian Beach Closed by Sewage |

|
At the height of the holiday season Hayle/Gwithian Beach has been closed. Red flags were erected on the beach - one of the most popular family and surfing beaches in the county - and lifeguards are advising holidaymakers not to venture into the water because of pollution. The pollution in question is raw sewage which was released into St Ives Bay following heavy rain. Apparently the volume of water was more than the sewage system could cope with and untreated sewage by-passed the screening and treatment system. |
