Subbarama Dikshithar[1839-1906]
Subbarama Dikshitar, the pioneer musicologist and scholar was the author
of Sangita sampradaya pradarshini. He was the adopted son of Balaswami
Dikshitar.He was born at Tiruvarur in 1839.When he was only five,he was
taken to Tiruvarur by Baluswami Dikshitar who adopted him as his own son.
Subbarama
Dikshitar was given intensive training in music, vina and Telegu and
Sanskrit.
He became a composer in his seventeenth year and and the chief astana vidwan
in his ninteenth year.Subbarama Dikshitar worked on the Sangita Sampradaya
Pradarshini for more than four years. It was a fruitful cooperation of Subbarama
Dikshitar and Chinnaswami Mudaliar.This book is has about 76 biographies
of persons noteworthy in the history of music from the times of SarngaDeva.
Subbarama Dikshitar also set to music VilliBharatam a Tamil Composition
of Kadikai Namasivaya pulavar. His compositions include the popular
Shankaracharyam .
