WAR: Cousins: Party Favors Date/Time: Tuesday, November 9; during and just after the party at the Hive Just before, concurrent and after "Parties Happen (2/2) Tok and the other Cousins exited the limo at the Hive. She, Bob and Cousin Bean (who'd been volunteered to hold the special package and wasn't exactly thrilled with that duty) held back a moment as the other entered with Lacroix. All three were dressed in blue jeans and sweatshirts. Tok's shirt was purple and had three silly-looking cats on it. Bob's and Bean's were navy blue and grey, respectively. Tok looked at the package Bean carried, which looked remarkably like the cake box Bob held. "You're sure this will work, right? All the Cousins are alerted to expect it to trigger at midnight." "No problem," Bob replied. "This timer is a work of art. All the seams of the container will fail at midnight, releasing the ants to ..." He thought a moment. "... do whatever it is ants do." Tok had a brief flashback to the pile of debris that had been under Bob's table. Shrugging mentally, she said, "Okay, let's go then." Once inside, Bob and Bean split off in search of the kitchen. When one of the UFers asked them where they were going, Bob said, "Just point us at the kitchen. We brought some dessert, and we need serving plates." Suitably directed, Bob and Bean entered the kitchen. While Bob found a serving plate for the real cake they'd brought, Bean pulled the 'ant bomb' out of the cake box and looked for a place to hide it. It had been designed to look like the average kitchen container, and she soon found a spot where it wouldn't be immediately noticed. She took off as fast as she could, determined to get some serious partying in before the ant bomb went off. Bob followed with a fairly large cake (devil's food, naturally) in search of the dessert table. The ant bomb quivered ever so slightly, and was still. * * * * * Midnight: Nobody was in the kitchen to see it, but the ant bomb began shaking and shivering. It shook its way forward from the spot where Bean had hidden it, approaching the edge of the counter. And then ... it stopped. Silent. Still. And intact. * * * * * 3 AM: Nancy and CA approached the kitchen, CA hot on the scent of something. Probably Sebastian the possum, Nancy thought. In the kitchen, the ant bomb quivered. Then it shook. Then it started dancing like ... well, like it was full of extremely annoyed and hungry ants, who were tired of being cooped up in this damn container. Finally, the container burst open and ants spewed forth. This being the UF kitchen, there were any number of sweet scents to attract them and they set out in search of food. Something, in the darkness of the kitchen, scurried across the floor towards the ants. Just at that moment, Nancy and CA came into the kitchen. Nancy heard an extremely soft and unusual sound, as though a great many small somethings were moving. "Sebastian?" she called out uncertainly. Then she flicked on the lights and saw the counter covered with ants. "Aacckk!!" she yelled, as CA charged forward to investigate.
