This modest handbill belongs to Chang's "farewell" appearance in Panama City in 1970. I hadn't seen Chang in my life but I had heard so much about him while I grew up that he was my magic idol. In 1962 he came to Panama with what was left of his big show (he still was impressive, according to accounts I have) but I missed seeing him because my mother didn't take me. I still regret I didn't insist more.
In 1969 Chang returned to Panama; his big show was just a memory then. He performed in Panama's top hotel and on this occasion I went to see him for the first time. He performed just an "act" then, which, according to my notes was:
- Vanishing bird cage (the cage turned into a flower)
- Water in newspaper to ink
- The Linking Rings
- Bird, egg, lemon and orange trick
- Torn and Restored Paper with sucker explanation
- Colored sands trick
- Cut and restored handkerchiefs (using a volunteer from the audience).
Only small magic, as you can see, but he was such a showman and humorist, he sold this program like the artist he was.
