A Card Trick for Your Club Show
The reason I named it that, was because I put it in my own show.... the effect of the trick is that a card is taken, and replaced and the deck shuffled.... the deck is then fanned so spectators can see the cards, and attention is called to the fact that you might GUESS at the card selected, but you would only have 1 chance out of 52 in guessing RIGHT. You then turn to some TOTAL STRANGER and have him look over the cards and without undue influence on the stranger, you tell him to settle his mind on one card and HE TELLS THE OTHER SPECTATOR THE NAME OF THE CARD HE SELECTED. Of course there are no confederates.
You use anyone's deck for this, if you wish, or your own, the idea and effect is the real thing.... the method.... I'm sure you'll like, as it is subtle.... The principle is that when you fan the deck WITH ONE HAND, and it is the right hand, with faces up that all the cards will show, that is the pips will show.... but if you take the deck in the LEFT HAND, with the faces UP and fan it with that left hand, THERE WILL BE NO PIPS SHOWING, except the last card.
Now for the routine.... have a card selected, and replaced and brought to the top.... by the pass or any method.... now with right hand, fan the deck with THAT ONE HAND, and show them the cards.... explaining as stated above that you would have a mighty slim chance of getting the card if you GUESSED. But now you turn to someone at your left and some one seated in a spot where no one could see the cards but that person if you fanned them in front of her.... you remark that this man or lady doesn't know magic, and that they never DID do tricks, but you are to fan the deck in front of them and ask them to concentrate on some ONE CARD that they see, and then after taking plenty of time they will announce the name of the Card that was selected without any help whatsoever from you.... you take the deck and overhand shuffle it, leaving the top or selected card on the bottom of the deck. Now take the cards in left hand, face up and toward you, and fan them with left hand.... and then hold them in front of the spectator....
Naturally that being the only card they can see, they will name it.... but tell them to take their time.... they will enter the spirit of the thing and do as you request. After they name the card, say slyly, "Don't tell how it's done will you?" They'll know what you mean but the other spectators will think you are KIDDING THEM.
