Something Brand New
Who said there was nothing new?.... well, Sir, this something is NOT new.... but it IS NEW and I offer it for the first time to MAGICIANS to use in their magic work, FIRMS that make a specialty of selling apparatus and ideas to gamblers sell what I am going to tell you about for TWO DOLLARS a few inches, but NOW, for the first time, you will be able to buy all you want for around a half a dollar, In DRUG STORES it is called adhesive for TOUPES.... used by men to STICK TOUPES TO THEIR HEADS, so they won't fall off. Sounds silly, using a thing like that doesn't it? But if you're near an ART STORE go in and ask them FOR ADHESIVE TAPE WITH THE ADHESIVE ON BOTH SIDES, and if they are out to date they'll have it in stock. Now if you can't get it anywhere you let me know and. I'll get you a LARGE ROLL enough to satisfy you for quite a while for the large sum of 79 cents which is what I pay for it. But it does come in smaller sizes for 50 cents or thereabouts. It's adhesive tape, then WITH THE STICKINESS on BOTH sides, and that's what the story is.
There isn't much more to say if you have imagination. However, there are SO MANY ways this can be applied to magic, that I will only delve into a few, and when you get the idea of how it can be used, then you can use your OWN IDEAS.
I give a gambling demonstration at clubs and organizations, and I have a little piece of the tape right on the callous under my third finger, on the open hand.... If you are playing for money and change is used, or even chips, show them how easy it is for you, after a pot is won by someone else, to PUSH OVER THE POT TO HIM WITH THE HAND WITH THE TAPE (THE RIGHT HAND) AND SAY "The pot's yours, feller".... and then show the palm of your hand, and let them see that a dime or a quarter has stuck to the hand.... What a laugh that is, to show them how easy it is for you to cheat, IF YOU WANTED TO.
Another way is to ask a druggist to give you ten dimes for a dollar bill.... when he does so, and he puts them on the counter, you push them aside as if you wanted to count them easily, and stick one to your palm, and then argue with him as long as you wish, about only getting nine dimes back.
Here's a beautiful stunt and a real miracle if you use a table with a well.... About 6 inches in the front of the well, have a black piece of card. To the end of this tie a thread and have the end of thread down the well, THRU THE WELL and off stage. On top of the black piece of card have a SMALL PIECE OF THE TAPE. Now have a card selected, and when you get it back in the deck shuffle the card to the bottom, or you can HAVE THE DECK SHUFFLED. Then take the deck and show faces to prove the card is still in the deck, and when you see it yourself, as you turn around, you make the pass, bringing the card to the bottom. Lay the deck face down ON TOP OF THE TAPE AND BLACK PIECE OF CARD. As soon as this is done, your assistant pulls the thread slowly and it will draw the SELECTED CARD AND THE BLACK CARD SLOWLY BACKWARD AND INTO THE WELL.... NOW ISN'T IT A MIRACLE IF YOU TELL your audience that the card was selected freely.... put back in the deck, and you have told them to watch every move you made. You showed them the card was in the center of the deck somewhere, and now without doing a thing you are going to make the card disappear. AND THEN WHEN YOU ARE READY ALLOW ANY SPECTATOR TO PICK UP THE DECK HIMSELF AND RUN THRU IT AND THE CARD IS REALLY GONE.
You can have a small piece tied, OR STUCK, RATHER to the ends of a handkerchief and then by simply pressing lightly another handkerchief against the tape, it will appear when you lift them up, the handkerchiefs are tied. together. If you do this, make a small knot in the ends of silk first, so they'll really look as if they're tied.
PUT A SMALL PIECE INSIDE YOUR BILLIARD BALL SHELL and then when you vanish a ball by inserting it in the shell YOU'LL BE ABLE TO TOSS THE SHELL AND BALL IN THE AIR, and they'll stick together, and look LIKE ONLY ONE BALL, fooling the ones who know about the shell.
You can put a small strip against the side of your trousers and then stick cigarettes on the strip. To get them off when you wish to produce them, ROLL THEM OFF, and they won't break.
If you stick a small piece as explained in the first idea on the callous of right hand palm, IT IS REMARKABLE HOW EASY IT IS TO PALM OFF THE TOP CARD FROM THE DECK AND KEEP THE FINGERS WIDE OPEN. I use this one a lot.
If you want to vanish a coin QUICKLY, stick a piece in the center of your white pocket handkerchief, and then when you borrow the coin, drape the hank over left fist, and with right hand, put the coin underneath and stick it to the tape.... When ready, shake handkerchief and coin apparently has gone.
