Well, due to underwhelming response and real life interferences, I'm going to postpone this contest until at least January 2005. If you started a story you'll have time to finish it. I'll also wave the 'enter it here before you share' but I'll want you to confirm that you didn't share the story before September 1, 2004, the original entry date for these categories.

Rules:

You are responsible for reading the rules and following them. I don't anticipate making major changes, but if I receive questions about a point, I may explain it in greater detail or expand the rules.

Your story must be new, as in written for this contest, and finished. If you want, you can post, link, or even enter it in another contest AFTER you enter it here. You don't have to wait for the read/vote to open here. Just tell me where else it's going. Keep in mind though that the 'fresher' a story is, the happier readers are when they get ready to vote.

Your story must fit the category. That means it must have a title that matches the one(s) listed and the title must fit the story reasonably well. No slapping a title on a story you have lurking around your hard drive that barely relates to the story. UK spelling in titles is not a problem.

IF I receive enough entries in a category, I'll split them into two categories – one for new authors and one for established authors (based on the number of story awards). The exact split may not always be the same. My objective here is to give newer authors a shot at an award without going up against the established authors. What does this mean to you? Encourage everyone you know to enter all the categories.

J/C don’t necessarily have to be a couple but they can't be with anyone else. Your story may focus on another Voyager couple but please have J and C floating around somewhere.

Your story must be rated between G – NC17. Err on the side of making the rating more restrictive as a courtesy to the readers. The rating of the story must take into account everything else on the page.

No slash, no bdsm, no gratuitous violence of any sort. No overly graphic violence either. If you think your story might be inappropriate, it probably is, but you can ask if you want to make sure.

One entry per category per author or team.

1000 word minimum; I want stories not oversized drabbles.

Awards:

The number of awards given will be based on the number of stories entered. Here's a sample:

Categories:

This is a little different. There are three categories: Blank, Maxim and Variation on a Theme. Your story must have a title that meets the criteria of the category.

Blank
Maxim
Variation on a Theme
_______ Error
Still Waters
Fruit
Fill in the blank with one or more words. Examples include "human," "command," "computer," "technical," or "judgment." Be creative. The complete phrase is Still Waters Run Deep. Any fruit in the title, Terran fruit that is and I'd better be able to find it using Google if I don't recognize it. The fruit does not have to be the focus of the story. For example:

An Apple a Day might be a story about Kathryn avoiding the EMH.

A question came up in chat about using "talaxian tomatoes" or "vulcan ruby pumpkins". I am looking at the words in the title. Tomatoes are Terran so that word qualifies. Pumpkins are Terran so that word qualifies. Any other words in the title will not disqualify a Terran fruit.
