More on Fold Blocking
From a question in E-Mail:
"We have run this play over the past several years against 1 LB defenses, but against a 4-2 look, how would you block it?
Technically, the rule for the folding play is to hunt
the playside LB, and then peel back to the backside LB
if he can't get there, so thereotically we can be
blocking the playside LB rather than the backside one.
This doesn't really fix the problem much. As you know,
the draw isn't the greatest vs single safety defenses,
unless the LBs are flying out, so we use other runs
usually, where the unblocked man is someone who can't
get there or is someone we can influence with the QB.
One thing we do as an adjustment vs 4-2 or single safety alignments is we will make a "Q Solid" Call.
The "Q" call makes it a QB draw--same blocking for OL,
but the "solid" call tells the back to look like he
pass blocking but to block the playside LB. In this
case the RB gets the playside backer and the folding
Linemen gets the backside backer. When we have an
athletic QB this has been a good change up for us.
