DOES SEX CREATE A MARRIAGE RELATIONSHIP?

COMMENTARY:

There are some well intentioned people who believe and teach that single people who have sexual intercourse before marriage, are in fact married because they have become "one flesh" sccording to the Bible:

1 Corinthians 6:16:What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.

If this was a true interpretation of what Paul said in the verse above, it would mean every "customer" of a harlot, would actually be married to her! This is absurd, as sexual UNIONS are not the same as sexual relations entered into by a man and woman who have exchanged marriage vows in the presence of man and God. While a sexual encounter may create a physical "oneness" for a brief period of time, the union is broken and voided after the act of fornication or adultery is concluded.

John 14:18 also proves a man and woman are not considered as being married, simply because they engage in sex. The woman at the well had 5 husbands, yet she was living with a man she was not married to. If sex formed marriages, she would have been married 6 times. (the first 5, plus the man she was staying with) Jesus specifically told her she was not married to the man, but He also indicated she had been married to 5 men in the past. If she was still married to the first man she had sex with, NONE of this would make any sense!

While God does not approve of divorce etc., we need to quit placing stumbling blocks of those who have sexually sinned in the past, divorced, etc. We need to encourage them to marry, if they cannot abstain from sexual sins. God is the Author of the bible, and believers don't need to add to or create new doctrines that drive people away from the forgiveness He freely offers ALL sinners. When people want to marry, we need to be glad and not beat them up with our pet doctrines.

1 Corinthinas 7:9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.

Hebrews 13:4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

Need forgiveness for your sins? If so, you can repent of your sins, and receive Jesus Christ as both Lord and Saviour. The gospel of salvation is simple, and it clearly tells us how sinners can be made into a "new-creation" in-Christ:
