1. Sodom and Gomorrah would have been spared the judgment of God, if only a few believers had prayed for deliverance. We need to pray, and ask God to save and restore our nation.

2. We need to stop electing profane people to office, and do our best to have those who mock God and our constitution removed from office.

3. Do nothing, and you will be held accountable for not "sounding the trumpet" as the end time events become a daily reality.

These two verses cover a whole range of things which can harm the human body, but most people use these scriptures as a "no no" regarding smoking. While I believe it is fair to use this part of scripture as a warning against smoking in general, the context of these scriptures covers a multitude of bad habits, as well as many other forms of self-abuse. One of the most common things missed here, is the fact this scripture refers ONLY to believers! Note the conditions stated: Your body is only a temple of God, "IF" the Spirit of God dwells in you. If you are NOT a born-again Christian, God does NOT dwell in your temple. (your body) Since many "temples" are actually defiled, it proves Christians sometimes do still sin in many ways AFTER salvation. Heed the terrible WARNING in verse 17, which is a PROMISE of God Himself. If you defile your body, God PROMISES to destroy it! I believe this usually happens over time, as our abusive treatment of the "temple" begins to erode the protection God has built-in to our physical body. (like our immune system, which automatically begins to heal us when things go wrong) If we continue to sin against ourselves and God, He may ALLOW the "speed up" the destruction process, in the hope our spirit can be salvaged in the end. FIRST CORINTHIANS chapter 5 5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Having said this, we need to understand these verses DO NOT refer directly to things like smoking cigarettes, or chewing tobacco. These bad habits are included in a general category which includes an EXCESS of almost anything. (some things are so bad for us ANY amount is excessive) Other things are safe in moderation, but many people overdose on things which are not necessarily that bad. (such as salt) Let's look into a few things many non-smokers do, which can also do a great amount of damage to the human body over a long period of time. (thus destroy the body of an un-believer, or the TEMPLE of a believer): No matter your belief concerning the matter of drinking alcohol, even a bartender will admit an excessive, or regular consumption of beverages which contain alcohol will in time destroy us. Many people understand this, and are wise enough to abstain , or limit their intake of alcohol. The sad part is, many people who consider anyone who drinks as being a sinner, will gulp down "soft drinks" as if they were a healthy liquid diet. Almost any sugar based pop or cola, is the equivalent of about 10 or 12 spoons of sugar! The old independent evangelist Oliver Greene said that he would rather drink a beer, than a cola. (he did not drink either) Even if you drink diet colas, you are still at great risk of "defiling the temple" as the most common sugar substitute is reported to be a very dangerous substance which may cause many serious illnesses. (Aspertame is the most common sugar substitute, and it is considered by many medical doctors to be the WORST choice of all) If you are "addicted" to drinking these type of beverages, YOU are defiling the temple of God too. Food, is another MAJOR problem among the "saved" and the "un-saved" alike. As the bible states, gluttons face their share of misery here, and in the hereafter. If you look up the bible references regarding drunkards, most of them refer to the GLUTTON in the same verses. While I don't believe Christians under grace need to follow the old testament dietary rules concerning food, to completely ignore them would be a foolish undertaking. If you are going to eat foods which God labeled as "unclean" for the Jews, I would not make such foods my steady diet and expect to live a healthy lifestyle. Face it, you can defile the TEMPLE in many ways. Fornication defiles all of the parties involved in their sexual activity, and increases the risk of AIDS and other terrible diseases. You can also defile the TEMPLE by neglect, by not taking care to keep it clean and orderly. Your ears and your eyes can be a source of filth, as easily as your mouth can. Do you allow the things of the world to keep the Spirit of God at bay, and overpower His will for your life? We need to quit beating people to death over their bad habits, and preach righteousness to them by becoming LIVING EXAMPLES for righteousness. Your words mean less than nothing, if your life is a series of bad choices and self-abuse. You can preach the gospel without saying a word, if you allow yourself to be led of the Spirit of God. If you are not saved, don't determine your future based on the poor examples Christians often set. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and you will become a living "temple" of God yourself...
