CAML President's Report

Cooler and shorter days, falling leaves-autumn is definitely upon us! For many of us, this is a particularly hectic time of year at work. However, the CAML Board is continuing to make progress on its ongoing projects. A meeting was held in Toronto in early November wherewe welcomed back Richard Belford from the University of Saskatchewan, who will continue on the Board as a Member-at-Large.

One of the Board's major concerns at the moment is preparation for the 2004 CAML conference, to be held at the University of Lethbridge from May 12-15. As noted in the last issue of CAML Review, these dates are slightly earlier than usual. We will be meeting with members of the Canadian University Music Society and their special guests, members of the Finnish Society of Musicology and the Finnish Society for Ethnomusicology. While the local arrangements for the conference are well in hand thanks to Professor Brian Black of the University of Lethbridge, we are still looking for ideas for the CAML program. We would encourage members to submit proposals for sessions or papers. These can be sent to me.

Also keep in mind that the next Helmut Kallmann award will be presented in Lethbridge. Further details regarding nomination procedures appear in this issue.

In other areas, work continues on the revamping of the CAML Web site, and special thanks go out to our CAML treasurer, Geoff Sinclair, for his work on this project. The Board is also looking at the updating of its procedures manual as well as the CAML constitution.

As we approach the end of the year, you are reminded that it is time to send in your membership renewal for 2004. A renewal form is available in English or French on the CAML Web site (www.yorku.ca/caml). Using the form saves work for the Membership Secretary as well as mailing costs for the association. Also, please encourage anyone you know working in the field of music librarianship or a related area who is not a member of the association to consider joining.
